Roush Fenway Racing "25 Years of Winning" LogoRFR places three cars in top 15; Biffle Holds Sprint Cup Points’ Lead
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (April 1, 2012) – Matt Kenseth scored a fourth-place finish in Sunday’s 500-lap Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway to lead the Roush Fenway effort at the short track. The finish is Roush Fenway’s best at Martinsville since the fall of 2008 and Kenseth’s best at the half-mile oval since a runner-up finish in the spring of 2002.
“We were pretty good,” said Kenseth. “We were not as good as some of the other cars, but for us at Martinsville we were good. We’ve just got to keep working because even when we had the balance perfect I just couldn’t run with those guys. But, overall, we came home in the top-10 at Martinsville and to not have anybody mad and not be mad at anybody is probably a pretty good day.”
Roush Fenway placed all three of its Ford Fusions inside the top 13, with Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle battling back from laps down to finish 11th and 13th respectively.
That’s a good recovery,” said Edwards. “We weren’t that fast, so we’ve got some things we need to work on here. It looks like Matt (Kenseth) was pretty good, so we’ll compare notes with him, but that’s a long day. It feels like you got stuck in a room with Mike Tyson and he’s not happy.”
With the finish, Biffle maintained his Sprint Cup points lead by six points. Kenseth moved to a four-way tie for third place, and Edwards moved up to 11th.
“We had a way better car than where I finished with it,” said points leader Biffle. “We probably should have been in the top 10…but it feels good to go on vacation being the point leader. Leaving here on top feels good because this is a tough place for us and we came here and ran respectable.”
Next weekend the series takes Easter weekend off before returning to action in two weeks at Texas Motor Speedway, where Roush Fenway has won eight times in the Sprint Cup Series and 16 times overall in NASCAR action.
